YES For Homes Info & Strategizing Session
Hats off to all the OCW members who helped with our Yes for Homes booth at the Orcas Farmers Market: Keara Axelrod, Anne Bertino, Sandi Friel, Sheila Gaquin, Bev Leyman,Natalie Menchao, Penny Sky Sharp and Cindy Wolf.
A broad coalition of folks are organizing the "Yes for Homes" campaign countywide. We’ve got a website, yesforhomes.net, and an organizational structure for educating voters and getting out the vote. Now we need to build our Orcas Island-based team.
Please join us on Tuesday evening, July 17 for a kick-off event. We’ll have some light refreshments, learn how the new local real estate transfer tax will work, and offer opportunities for you to sign up and help get out the vote in November.
We all know someone who is struggling in this economy. Average wages aren’t enough to pay for average housing costs. With housing costs rising 20% in just four years, more of our island friends and families face an affordability crisis than ever before. Some are days away from displacement or homelessness.
On November 6, 2018 San Juan County voters will vote on a local real estate excise tax to support affordable housing for our island neighbors. We can help 400 families in the San Juans with homes.
We need your help to succeed, please join us! Please RSVP by emailing Anne Marie Shanks: firstname.lastname@example.org.
That’s Tuesday, July 17, 5 – 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Parish Hall.
